Welcome to Vegan Primary Care

Finding the right Primary Care doctor can be difficult, no matter who you are. But when you’re a vegan, it can be even harder. That’s why we created Vegan Primary Care. A telehealth practice licensed to help you in most US States, providing care from a vegan doctor’s perspective.

As board-certified physicians, we provide many of the same services as any primary care doctor you see in person – writing prescriptions, ordering imaging or lab tests, and making referrals. But rather than rely only on the Western model of medicine, which manages chronic conditions with pills, we believe in plant-based care that seeks to achieve optimum health through a whole-foods plant-based diet, enjoyable exercise and maintaining quality relationships.

Our focus on individual treatment is evident in everything we do. We value the doctor-patient relationship, and get to know you personally. Initial appointments are 1 hour with 30 minute follow ups so you never feel rushed.

We look forward to helping support and maintain your long-term health. Contact us so we can get started.

Meet Dr. Scott Harrington, DO

Vegan Primary Care is the creation of Dr. Scott Harrington DO. He is a board-certified Family Medicine physician with over 17 years of experience. He started his career using standard methods. Then he personally adopted a plant-based diet in 2012. Since then, his energy levels, exercise endurance and recovery time dramatically improved. His weight, blood pressure, blood sugar, and hormone levels all normalized. This convinced Dr. Harrington to focus on teaching patients what he learned. The plant-based diet had impressive effects with his patients. Many patients suffering with chronic illnesses improved dramatically. Many patients were able to stop all their medications.

As a Family Doctor I am trained for all age groups from newborns to seniors. However, I am unable to provide vaccinations for children under 3 years old. For this age group I can still provide care for many ailments, but it is best for you to have a Pediatrician that can give your child their required vaccinations. After 3 years of age, local pharmacies can provide vaccinations.

Telemedicine is being relied upon more and more but sometimes you do need to have an in person exam. As primary care physicians we listen to your concerns, provide education, order tests, and make referrals. With video visits we will be able to see most exam findings. But, the heart, lung and ear exam are are not possible through basic video visits. In emergency cases where the exam will change the diagnosis, I recommend going to a local urgent care facility for a same day appointment.

Please allow 2-5 days for routine test results. If you haven’t heard from us within that time, then you should check the patient portal. If there is an abnormal result requiring urgent attention, then you will be contacted as soon as the result is reviewed.

For a routine lab order request, please send us a message in the portal. Please allow 48 hours to process.

Oftentimes specialty referrals are a part of the medical visit. If you have a referral requirement, then request this via the portal in advance of scheduling your specialty appointment. Referral requests can take up to one week to process.

I am unable to prescribe controlled pain medications via a telemedicine visit.  Although I am able to prescribe pain medicines via in-person visits, patients who require chronic pain medication will be referred to pain management.
